Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 5, 2026

No mobile information will be shared with third parties/affiliates for marketing/promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

1. Introduction
Damascus ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the Damascus app—including prayer tracking, streaks, reflections, community features, and Damascus+ content.
2. Information We Collect
We collect: (1) Account information you provide, such as display name, email, and any optional phone number you add to your profile, when you create an account, use Sign in with Apple, or use Google Sign-In; (2) Prayer and usage data, including prayer sessions, your prayer streak, achievements, highlights and notes (notes are encrypted on our servers), Damascus+ watch history where applicable, and preferences (e.g., notification times); (3) Community-related data if you use friends, camp linking, or leaderboard features; (4) Push notification support data, including a Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) device token stored with your account when you opt into remote notifications, so we can deliver messages you have agreed to receive; (5) Product analytics when enabled in the app's configuration (e.g., Firebase Analytics for engagement and subscription-related events—see your platform documentation; analytics can be disabled in build settings); and (6) Device information (e.g., device type, OS) and app usage as needed to run and improve Damascus. If you grant contact access, Damascus reads contact emails and phone numbers on your device only to help find existing accounts; it does not write to your contacts. We use Firebase (authentication, Firestore, Storage, Cloud Messaging, Analytics) and Google Sign-In, as well as Apple services, in accordance with their privacy policies. Guest users have limited data stored until they create an account.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to provide and improve Damascus: to maintain your prayer streak and achievements, sync your data across devices, surface daily reflections and content, send you notifications you have opted into (such as daily prayer reminders or streak reminders), deliver remote notifications via FCM when enabled, power community features (e.g., leaderboard, friends, and contact-based friend suggestions), understand how features are used when analytics are enabled, and to fix issues and improve the app. Optional phone numbers and contact-derived lookups are used only to help people connect with friends already using Damascus. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored using Firebase and industry-standard security practices. We take reasonable steps to protect your information; however, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. Data may be processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers operate.
5. Data Sharing
We may share information with service providers that help us operate Damascus (e.g., Firebase/Google, Apple), when required by law, or to protect our or others' rights and safety. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their marketing. If you use community features, your display name and relevant stats (e.g., for leaderboard) may be visible as described in the app. Contact information from your address book is used for account matching and suggestion purposes within Damascus and is not written back to your contacts.
6. Your Choices
You can control prayer notification preferences (daily reminder, streak reminders, new content alerts) and reminder times in Settings under Notifications. You can also decline or later revoke contact access in iOS Settings, and you can add, change, or remove your optional phone number in your profile. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. Account deletion is available in Settings under Privacy and will remove your account and associated data from our systems.
7. Children's Privacy
Damascus is intended for users 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not use Damascus or provide any information about yourself to us. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us at privacy@damascus.net so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy in the app or by other reasonable means. Your continued use of Damascus after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, contact us at privacy@damascus.net.
